WOBURN, Mass. -- A Massachusetts man is accused of stealing more than $200,000 from several women he met online.
Albert Lovering, 54, was cuffed in court and taken to jail, accused of swindling four women he met online for more than $200,000 during the past five years.
His wife since 1999 had nothing to say while leaving court. Investigators say her husband first posted a dating ad on Yahoo.com back in 2006 where he described himself as:
"Handsome sensual, warm and kind, understanding and supportive, loyalI seek a balanced, kind, warm, non smoking woman of integrity for a long term relationship.
Prosecutors say the first victim responded. They hung out once or twice week and allegedly Lovering convinced her to bid on a holster being sold on eBay. She did and won the item, but he allegedly never paid her back.
He met the second woman in January of 2008 after posting an ad on Craigslist. And he once again had her bid on eBay items, but investigators say he never repaid her.
Then he allegedly led that woman to believe he was in a New Hampshire hospital and he needed help paying his medical bills or the hospital wouldnt let him out.
Prosecutors say the victim sent him more than $70,000 and when she ran out of money, Lovering allegedly told her to borrow money from her family, colleagues, friends, and old lady friends, and to consider getting money from her 401K retirement fund, if she had one.
Lovering allegedly went on to cheat two more women for thousands of dollars.
And in court - the district attorney argued for a higher bail, saying he was concerned Lovering would flee the country:
The defendant placed ads on Craigslist seeking apartments in locations He sought apartments in phoenix, he sought them in Costa Rica, he sought them in Toronto, HalifaxCopenhagen, said Doug Cannon, prosecutor.
Lovering is being held on $10,000 cash bail.
