Would-be Romeo spends hundreds on half page singles ad in Epsom Guardian

8:00am Thursday 15th September 2011

A 31-year-old man is so desperate to find love that he spent hundreds of pounds taking out a half page advertisment in the Epsom Guardian.

The successful businessman from Epsom, who insists on remaining anonymous, placed the ad on page 7 of the August 26 edition of the paper, hoping to attract suitable local ladies.

The man, who owns a number of restaurants in London, said he had tried online dating for more than a year without success and got the idea after seeing a large ad in an American newspaper which had attracted a lot of responses.

The would-be Romeo, who wore a mask during the photo shoot to conceal his identity, describes himself as 5 foot 8, medium build with dark hair and definitely not a minger - a fact confirmed by our photographer.

He said: I have done the whole internet dating thing and its a complete nightmare.

Its so difficult to meet people locally.

I saw an advert in New York while I was there and it inspired me.

With my work I travel a lot and I think thats why my dating life has been terrible.

I went on this date a year ago and we went out and it went great and I got a text the next day saying there was no chemistry.

I just dont understand dating.

Asked about shelling out so much money to place a lonely hearts advert our mystery man said: Its all relative.

I have been with Berkley International, the Rolls Royce of dating, and they charge up to 20,000 in membership fees and it was a waste of time."

Only a handful of women have come forward since the ad was placed, but he is still hopeful of finding love. He added: The reason I did it was to meet someone local.

Im 31 and I think about settling down, getting married and having kids.

It wasnt for a laugh or anything.
