GRANTS AWARDED BY BTL FOUNDATION
BTL Foundation for International Services has awarded new grants in near and far places.
Founder Chairman Bangalore T. Lakshman matched donations, but low levels cut aid: "We would like to have been able to have more grants, larger grants -- and to help more needy families."
Executive Director Nurani "Mona" Mohana said five families got up to $500. Other grants:
Fresh Start Scholarship Foundation, Wilmington, $250 for books, college tuition, student motivation.
Frederica Senior Center, $250 to feed more needy senior citizens.
Maasai Heritage Preservation Foundation Inc., Roswell, Ga., $500 for food boxes for the elderly.
Perkins School for the Blind, Watertown, Mass., $500 for educational opportunities for blind children.
Power Up Gambia of Philadelphia, $500 toward a solar power system for Bansang Hospital in The Gambia.
U.S. Association for UNHCR, Washington, D.C., $250, Haiti relief.
Kings World (USA) Inc., Summit, N.J., $500, India tsunami relief; $500 more with added documentation.
Hope Abides, Elk Grove, Calif., $500 for an orphanage roof, school materials in Andhra Pradesh, India.
Adults Helping Children Today, Oconto, Wis., $250 for school children's basic needs in Ukraine.
