Six Women Still Alive in 2011 WSOP Main Event - PokerListings.com
The chance of a female winner at the 2011 WSOP Main Event is looking slim with only six women making it through Day 4.
There hasnt been a female player at the final table since Barbara Enright placed sixth in the 1995 Main Event.
After 2008, when Tiffany Michelle finished 17th in the Main Event, the last female has busted earlier and earlier with Leo Margets dropping out in 37th in 2009 and last year Breeze Zuckerman finishing 121st.
Famed poker pro Vanessa Rousso was stacked in the early stages of Day 4 and looked primed to make a deep run for the women. Unfortunately she lost three huge pots to David Bach and found herself out of the tournament in short order.
Fellow Team PokerStars Pro Sandra Naujoks was also looking good to make Day 5 but busted in one of the final hands of Day 4.
Despite the odds, heres a look at every female player who still has chips heading into Day 5 of the 2011 WSOP Main Event:
Amanda Musumeci 1.06 Million Chips
Poker pro Amanda Musumeci is no stranger to poker and was sponsored by Bodog in the past.
Originally from Philadelphia, Musumeci was primarily an online player but moved to Las Vegas when she started playing more live tournaments.
Despite some initial difficulty when she was originally breaking into live games, Musumeci finally recorded a substantial cash earlier this year when she finished 11th in the WPT Hollywood Poker Open in Indiana for $22,157.
Musumeci was one of the early chip leaders in the early stages of the day but got into trouble when she ran into a set of fives in a huge pot. At this point she's still the best shot females have.
Claudia Crawford 986,000 Chips
Claudia Crawford is a very active player in the gulf coast poker scene and has cashed numerous times in Biloxi.
Hailing from Long Beach, MS, she won one of the preliminary events of the IP Poker Classic in 2008 and finished 63rd in last years WSOP Ladies Event.
The girlfriend of noted poker pro Gabe Costner, Crawford has cashed for $27,000 in her poker career.
No matter where she finishes in the Main Event she will at least double that number.
Jan Callaway 693,000 Chips
Jan Callaway is a 48-year-old bank supervisor from Edmonton, Alberta.
She started playing poker about six years ago and found she really enjoyed the competitive nature of the game.
Callaway started playing a fair amount in Edmonton and this year decided to buy in directly to the Main Event.
Shes now the envy of her friends and family as she has a very decent stack heading into Day 5.
Michele Koerner 688,000 Chips
Michele Koerner has been playing poker for only a year and a half but now finds herself with a good stack in the biggest tournament in the world.
The 45-year-old is very active in Vancouver, BC, poker scene and plays a variety of live tournaments and cash games in the area.
This is Koerners second time playing the Main Event and its going much better for her this time around.
Earlier this year took down a $35k bad beat jackpot while she was playing poker in Vancouver and decided to parlay some of that cash into a Main Event seat.
Its a move thats already paid off as she will receive at least $30k, wherever she finishes in the Main Event.
Erika Moutinho 640,000 Chips
Erika Moutinho is particularly well known in the poker world as shes dating online superstar David Doc Sands.
Originally from Easton, Connecticut, Moutinho moved to L.A. where worked in the television business.
She moved to Las Vegas a year ago and began working as a consultant and life coach for poker players.
Apparently her coaching strategies are not limited to her clients as she broke through in one of the $1k WSOP tournaments earlier this summer and recorded her first cash.
As an interesting aside, her boyfriend Sands is still alive in the tournament with 457,000 chips.
Mimi Luu 57,000 Chips
Mimi Luu is a respected poker pro from San Jose, California, who has live cashes dating all the way back in 2000.
Luu won one of the preliminary events at the 2011 WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star for over $100,000 in cash. She also won a tournament at the 2011 California State Poker Champonship to boost her overall lifetime live earnings up to $124,545.
That number will get a significant boost from where ever she finishes in the 2011 Main Event.
Shes going to need a lot of help, however, as she finished Day 4 with only 57,000 chips.
