Kim Kardashian sues Old Navy for using look-alike model - Jamaica Observer

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. But Kim Kardashian has been left furious after clothing brand Old Navy used a look-alike in their new ad campaign. The 30-year-old reality star is now suing the clothing giant for somewhere in the region of US$15 - $20 million.

Perhaps adding to Kardashians fury is the fact that the model and actress in the ad, Melissa Molinaro, is said to be currently dating 26-year-old NFL player Reggie Bush, whom she dated for three years. She is suing the company for the unauthorised use of her name, likeness, identity, and persona. Represented by intellectual property attorney Gary Heckler, Kims representation told the Mail Online she is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.

The reality star claims in the lawsuit, which was first reported by TMZ, that Old Navy is using Molinaro to evoke her identity and persona. A statement from Kims representation reads: Old Navy launched a multimedia advertising campaign featuring television and online ads that misappropriate Kardashians likeness in the form of a celebrity look-alike, and styled the infringing ads to evoke Kardashians identity and persona.

Kim is said to be especially angry that along with the advertisement, Old Navy is consistently tweeting promotional titbits about the campaign, linking them to her own Twitter account. @CBSNEWS reports that Old Navys Super CUTE star looks like @kimkardashian. #LOL. What do you think? reads one the tweets. Old Navy declined to comment when contacted by the Mail Online.

Creative Beatz

He is not known for his fashion designing superstardom, but let's not dampen Swizz Beatz's self-aggrandisement too much. As new creative director for Reebok Classics, the hip hop artiste real name Kasseem Daoud Dean will indeed influence the sneaker-wearing world, but stylish as this trend-setting take on fashion may be, the hip-hop star seems a little over-confident.

At the unveiling of the partnership in New York, he compared himself with some of the world's most famous fashion designers. He said: "I want y'all to understand the movement and the opportunity that we all have. Reebok is definitely back. I am happy to be the creative director globally. That puts me up there with the Marc Jacobs and Karl Lagerfelds. To have that position coming from the South Bronx... I tell everybody that the sky is not the limit, it's just the view."

Karl Lagerfeld, the 77-year-old fashion maestro, has been an industry leader for over 50 years and designs for Chanel, Fendi and his own label. American designer Marc Jacobs heads up industry behemoth Louis Vuitton as well as his own label Marc by Marc Jacobs. He will make his 'Reethym of Life' campaign debut with the launch of the Reebok Kamikaze sneaker. At the launch party along with his wife, Alicia Keys, were Busta Rhymes, Clive Davis, Pharrell Williams and Diddy. Not Mr Lagerfeld's usual crowd, you could say.
